Car of the Week: Nic Gaines' 1972 Mach One

Welcome to the BTE Racing Car of the Week series, where we feature our loyal customers and drag racing fans, and the cars (and trucks) they love to race. Today we're featuring Nic Gaines from Hayward, MN, who owns and races a 1972 Mach One.

How did you get interested in drag racing?
My stepdad, he got the whole family interested in it.

When and where was your first drag race?
Around 2003 at Cedar Falls Raceway. I was racing a ‘67 Mustang—I still have it. 

What model/year do you race now? Any special features?
‘72 Mach One. My stepdad started racing it over 20 years ago and I’ve been racing it for a while now. Its most special feature is that it hasn’t been cut up.

The Mach

Which BTE Racing products do you use in your vehicle?
None, currently.

Why do you use BTE? How has BTE helped you improve your racing?
Although I’m not currently using BTE, I know they’ve helped many racers.

Jack Beckman 

If money were no object, what would your dream car be?
Top Sportsman or Pro Stock

What is your proudest drag racing moment?
I was the runner-up of the 100k at the Firecracker Nationals.

Why do you race?
It’s a great time with the family. 

What is your biggest challenge as a driver?
Consistent reaction times
