Car of the Week: John Thomas Kimbrell's 1980 Chevrolet Monza

Welcome to the BTE Racing Car of the Week series, where we feature our customers and fans, and the cars (and trucks) they love to race. Today, it’s all about John Thomas Kimbrell and his 1980 Chevrolet Monza

How did you get into drag racing?

My entire family has always raced, so it kinda runs in the family!

When and where was your first race?

My first race was at US-43 in Ethridge, TN. I had a ’64 Falcon tube chassis car and ran 6.46.

What model/year do you race now?

I currently have several cars, but my main car is a ’80 Monza full round tube extended wheelbase chassis car. It's an ex-Top Sportsman car out of North Carolina.

Does your car have a nickname?

It’s been called “Tunechi.”

What's under the hood?

598 cubic inch big block Chevrolet, Pro Systems Carburetor, Doug Herbert Cam, Brodix Cylinder heads, Magnafuel fuel system

Which BTE products do you use in your vehicle?

I have a BTE 5500 stall converter

Why do you use BTE?

Honestly, because I haven't ever had an issue with anything BTE I've ever owned.

Someone you look up to in racing?

Bob Glidden (even though he likes Fords).

If money were no object, what would you drive?

Toss up between a Vega Chrome Moly and a 7/8 scale ’55 Belair
