Welcome to the BTE Racing Car of the Week series, where we feature our loyal customers and drag racing fans, and the cars (and trucks) they love to race. Today we're featuring Jay Friedrich from Mackinaw, IL, who owns and races a 1966 Chevelle.
How did you get interested in drag racing?
When and where was your first drag race?
1992 in Cordova, IL
What model/year do you race now? Any special features?
1966 Chevelle that I race in outlaw street car races. I bought it in college in 1986 with the original 300 6 cyl. Drove it one year with the 6 cyl and then started converting it to a BBC powered street car. It has evolved over the years, now a 582 BBC with a F2 Procharger.
Does your car have a nickname?
What's under the hood?
582 BBC with a F2 procharger
Which BTE Racing products do you use in your vehicle?
All my glide internals are BTE. A 3300-lb car with 1100-ft-lbs of torque is hard on transmissions. (LOL)
Why do you use BTE? How has BTE helped you improve your racing?
I was tired of tearing up glides, taking out the low gear bands, etc.
Describe BTE Racing in 3 words.
Quality, customer service, reliability
Who is a drag racer you look up to?
If money were no object, what would your dream car be?
The car I have now with a better chassis and twin turbos
What is your proudest drag racing moment?
Having a low 8-second car that I can do Drag Week and cruise with.
Why do you race?
What is your biggest challenge as a driver?
Power management and tuning with a small tire.
