Welcome to the BTE Racing Car of the Week series, where we feature our customers and fans, and the cars (and trucks) they love to race. Today, it’s all about Ed DeUel from Jerseyville, IL and his 1970 Pontiac GTO.
How did you get into drag racing?
I was 16 years old in 1961 and was hooked after visiting a drag strip.
When and where was your first race?
I started racing at Whitehall Drag Strip in Whitehall, IL. Had to stop racing in 2005 after a heart attack.
What model/year did you race?
1970 Pontiac GTO
What's under the hood?
My engine is a 462 CI Pontiac with round port heads, solid roller cam and 671 supercharger 7.3:1 compression ratio runs good on 89 octane. I've always built my engines and transmissions.
Which BTE products do you use in your vehicle?
I have used a BTE converter.
Someone you look up to in racing?
Favorite drivers are Don Garlits and Arnie Beswick.
If money were no object, what would you drive?
I would still drive my GTO.
What was your pre-race ritual (if you have one)?
My pre-race ritual was always a prayer.
