Welcome to the BTE Racing Car of the Week series, where we feature our loyal customers and drag racing fans, and the cars (and trucks) they love to race. Today we're featuring David Hollis from Dyer, TN, who owns and races a 1979 Chevy C10.
How did you get interested in drag racing?
As a kid, my cousin gave me his old Hot Rod magazines. That was it!
When and where was your first drag race?
Mid-South Dragway, spring 2018
What model/year do you race now? Any special features?
1979 Chevy C10, Blueprint stroked small block Chevy 396 cid, Ridetech suspension, Wilwood brakes, BTE trans and converter, built for Autocross, scaled at 3444
Does your car have a nickname?
“Snuff”
What's under the hood?
Blueprint 396 sbc, dyno 496hp and 511 tq
Which BTE Racing products do you use in your vehicle?
Transmission, valve body, direct drum, fluid, and converter
Why do you use BTE? How has BTE helped you improve your racing?
BTE is what a lot of drag race friends run and your reputation is top notch. Neal walked me through every step. I ran a 2-mile road course at AMP and the trans performed awesome. Drag racing, I start burnouts in second and shift to first, put it in drive at the line and let it go off the two step. Trans is great.
Describe BTE Racing in 3 words.
Trustworthy, reliable, honest
Who is a drag racer you look up to?
Ricky Pop Baggett
If money were no object, what would your dream car be?
Ferrari of course!
What is your proudest drag racing moment?
No prep race, I lost by .000295. The other racer was super nice and won our class. Sounds weird being proud of losing, but it was great.
Why do you race?
I am a gearhead and love being around other gearheads
What is your biggest challenge as a driver?
Concentrating in full race gear and Hans. Summer heat is tough.
