Welcome to the BTE Racing Car of the Week series, where we feature our loyal customers and drag racing fans, and the cars (and trucks) they love to race. Today we're featuring David Hammons from Gulfport, MS, who owns and races a 1988 Chevy S10.

How did you get interested in drag racing?
My dad used to race, so I grew up around the track.

When and where was your first drag race?
1988 Gulfport Dragway

What model/year do you race now? Any special features?
1988 Chevy S10. Nothing special about my ride lol

Does your car have a nickname?
The Pretender

What's under the hood?
Basic 383 SBC, Brodix heads, hydraulic roller camshaft.

Which BTE Racing products do you use in your vehicle?
BTE 8” converter, 1.98 straight cut planetaries, input shaft, and deep transmission pan.

Why do you use BTE? How has BTE helped you improve your racing?
BTE has top notch products and their customer service is second to none. My latest switch to BTE 1.98 straight cuts really helped improve my reaction time off the footbrake.

Who is a drag racer you look up to?
Any “old timer” that shows up and puts it in the staging beam.

If money were no object, what would your dream car be?
I have always wanted to wheel a Pro Stock car.

What is your proudest drag racing moment?
Watching my sons turn on their first win lights.

Why do you race?
I enjoy the competition, plus being at a race track is mental therapy to me.  

What is your biggest challenge as a driver?
