Welcome to the BTE Racing Car of the Week series, where we feature our customers and fans, and the cars (and trucks) they love to race. Today, it’s all about Justin Markul from Elizabeth City, NC and his 1977 Chevy Camaro.
How did you get into drag racing?
It's been in my family my whole life. My father was always, and still is a gear head.
When and where was your first race?
At the time my Camaro was my daily driver. I used to spend Saturdays at the super shop buying parts, hit the car show in the evening, then a little street race here and there.
What model/year do you race now?
A 1977 Camaro that I’ve had since high school. It’s been through 3 small blocks, 3 big blocks and now a twin turbo small block.
Does your car have a nickname?
What's under the hood?
A home built 383, twin turbo, BorgWarner s300, Dart SHP heads, CSU built 750 on E85
Someone you look up to in racing?
No one specifically, but the TV show Street Outlaws encouraged me to build my own turbo engine.
If money were no object, what would you drive?
A brand new Chevy Diesel Dually
What is your pre-race ritual (if you have one)?
Don't be in a rush, relax, a good luck kiss from my wife and a quick prayer to stay safe and thank the man for giving me the ability to do what I love.
