Welcome to the BTE Racing Car of the Week series, where we feature our customers and fans, and the cars (and trucks) they love to race. Today, it’s all about Chris White of Loxley, AL and his 1979 Chevy Malibu.
How did you get into drag racing?
My dad and grandpa started racing in the 80s and I grew up in the sport. I have always had the passion to race, and when I turned 14 I started racing street vehicles. When I turned 16, I got my first race car. It was a 1989 Camaro Super Street Car.
When and where was your first race?
My first race was at Atmore Dragway in Atmore, Alabama.
What model/year do you race now?
My current vehicles are a 1979 Chevy Malibu (pictured) and a 1992 GMC Sonoma.
What is your car’s nickname?
Her nickname is BuBu.
What’s under the hood?
355 Small Block Chevy
Which BTE products do you use in your vehicle?
BTE straight cuts and valve body
Why do you use BTE?
BTE has always had good quality parts and we have good luck with them.
Someone you look up to in racing?
My dad is the person I look up to in racing. He is very successful at it and always has good advice.
If money were no object, what would you race?
I would run pro stock.
What is your pre-race ritual (if you have one)?
Before racing I just always take a few deep breaths and remind myself of my game plan, relax and turn the pre-stage on.
