Car of the Week: Chris Gootee's 1993 S10

Welcome to the BTE Racing Car of the Week series, where we feature our customers and fans, and the cars (and trucks) they love to race. Today, it’s all about Chris Gootee from Caneyville, KY and his ’93 S10.

How did you get into drag racing?

I went to the track (US 60) with my parents as a child. My dad worked the burnout box and my mom worked concessions. Growing up at the track, I always wanted to race.

When and where was your first race?

US 60, Hardinsburg, KY. I was 15 years old and raced an ’88 S10.

What model/year do you race now?

I race a ’93 S10. I have owned this truck since 1995. I drove it to high school before I made it a race truck.

Does your car have a nickname?

“Hero”

What's under the hood?

383 cubic inch small block Chevy

Which BTE products do you use in your vehicle?

Complete BTE powerglide transmission.

Why do you use BTE?

It's the best.

Someone you look up to in racing?

Local racing friends Danny and Steve Hester have been a big influence. They have educated me and shown me a lot over the years.

If money were no object, what would you drive?

Grand National with a twin turbo set up

What is your pre-race ritual (if you have one)?

It's not an intentional ritual, but I do get sick at every race. Other than that, I really don't have a ritual.
